Nick Redfearn – Managing Director
Nick graduated from King’s College London in 1980 with a BSc Hons (Eng) in Civil Engineering and earned an MBA from Manchester Business School in 1988. He has held senior roles in major industrial companies including OTIS Plc, Clyde Blowers Plc (Divisional Director, Materials Handling), Butterley Engineering Limited (Managing Director), and FKI Logistex (Customer Solutions Director). Following his tenure at FK Logistex, Nick acquired his own business in the mechanical handling sector, leading to his current role as Managing Director and controlling shareholder of Amber Industries Ltd. Whenever he can Nick likes to get out into his garden.
Tony Moore – Control Systems Director
Tony began his career at Hurley Moate Engineering, completing a 4-year Electrical/Electronic apprenticeship and working in wiring, testing, and commissioning of special-purpose machinery for the printing industry. After five years gaining UK and European experience, he moved into the materials handling sector. Tony joined Amber Industries 20 years ago, progressing from control panel designer and electrical site installer to Control Systems Director. He is heavily involved in software design, system integration, and commissioning. Tony has recently acquired a motorcycle.
Lee Davenport – Technical Director
Lee has over 25 years’ experience in the materials handling industry, specialising in conveyor and bespoke equipment design. He joined Amber Industries at 18 as an apprentice mechanical draughtsman and has progressed through roles including Project Engineer and Engineering Manager to his current position as Technical Director. Lee combines extensive office and site experience with detailed design expertise for manual and automated handling systems. Lee is a keen DIY enthusiast and also plays football for his local side.
Javed Surfaly – Finance Director
Javed, a Mauritian national with UK work rights, holds a degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Mauritius and is an ACCA-qualified professional. He began his career in accountancy practice in Manchester before moving into senior finance roles in manufacturing. Joining Amber Industries in 2019 as Finance Manager, he is now Finance Director, overseeing accounting, administration, contract performance, and ERP implementation. Javed is the primary liaison with IT support and has led the installation of Amber’s new ERP system. In his spare time Javed takes every opportunity to go swimming.
John Isherwood – Project Engineering Manager
John brings over 35 years of design engineering experience across bespoke engineering sectors. A fully IT-literate mechanical project and design engineer, he is proficient in Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, and PTC Mathcad/Prime, with experience in parametric design and full specification detailing. John is trained and experienced in ATEX 94/9/EC, CE Marking, Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, and DNV standards, providing expert oversight of complex engineering projects. In his spare time John enjoys fly fishing.
Andrew Grice – Senior Systems Sales Manager
Andrew is an accomplished senior engineering design and technical sales professional with over 40 years of experience delivering high-performance solutions to automotive, manufacturing, and materials handling clients. He specialises in designing and implementing bespoke engineering solutions for top-tier manufacturers and is skilled in 3D CAD design, project management, value engineering, and complex system integration. Combining technical expertise with commercial acumen, Andrew optimises operational performance and delivers measurable ROI. He has held senior roles in several leading global manufacturers and has provided strategic, hands-on engineering leadership across the UK, Europe, and Asia.
Nicholas Hearn – System Sales Manager
Nicholas has over 40 years experience in automating UK and European manufacturing operations using material handling equipment, robotics and special purpose machines. From apprentice to graduate to Chartered Engineer, Nicholas has always adopted a hands-on approach to his work and has functioned in mechanical design, software, servicing, installation and sales roles. Operating in sectors as diverse as warehousing, laundries, munitions, automotive, pharmaceutical and healthcare gives him a wealth of knowledge and experience to find a solution to a problem.
Lee Wright – System Sales Manager
Lee is a dedicated and highly knowledgeable Technical Sales Engineer whose career initially at MCM Conveyors and now at Amber Industries spans over 30 years. Starting in 1990 as a Fitter Fabricator and completing an Advanced Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering Studies (MECS) he gained an in depth practical understanding of conveyor systems. This firm foundation was built upon with a time spent in in Purchasing. Since his promotion in 1999 to Technical Sales roles Lee has supported the company’s client base by providing expert consultations and technically accurate information for both overhead and bespoke conveyor installations, including their spares and servicing requirements. Lee spends much of his leisure time going for runs or hiking in the fells.
Peter Cook – Installation Manager
Peter has over 30 years experience in the materials handling industry, specialising in the installation of both overhead and floor conveyor systems. As Installation manager at Amber Industries , he is responsible for over-seeing all on-site installation activities, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with programme requirements. Peter’s duties include managing in-house installations teams and sourcing subcontractors to supplement the in-house teams where necessary. He works closely with the design and sales teams to co-ordinate their activities to ensure smooth project execution from receipt of order through to completion and handover. Amongst his many duties Peter schedules service and support visits both in the UK and overseas, providing a single point of contact for the site-based teams and customers.
Yacine Haliti – Conveyor Systems Engineer
Yacine is an experienced Control Systems and Commissioning Engineer. Since joining Amber Industries, he has been involved in the design, programming, and commissioning of automated conveyor systems and bespoke handling solutions. He holds a master’s degree in Control Systems Engineering from the University of Algeria, and his expertise includes PLC programming, HMI design, electrical CAD drawing, and on-site system commissioning.
David McCartney – Works Manager
David has over 20 years’ experience in production engineering starting his engineering career at Firth Rixson Forgings in Sheffield as a Sub-Contract Manager overseeing production of machined forgings for Rolls Royce, Snecma and Caterpillar within the Firth Rixson supply chain before moving onto work within the heavy engineering industry, he joined Amber industries in 2017 as a Buyer before being appointed as Works Manager in 2025 overseeing all aspects of assembly and manufacture of our conveyor systems.
